Friction Flashcards
1
Q
Static Friction
A
Acts on a stationary object and prevents motion (Fs). It is a max value that can be applied by surface + content.
2
Q
Kinetic Friction
A
Acts to oppose the motion of a moving object (Fk). Typically lower than static friction. Once an object gets moving it takes less force to keep it moving. Ff depends on Fn and surfaces in contact.
3
Q
Coefficient of Friction
A
The ratio of magnitude Ff to magnitude Fn. Formulas: μ=Ff/Fn, μ=Fs/Fn, μ=Fk/Fn. μ typically between 0 and 1.
4
Q
What is friction?
A
The force which acts on 2 objects in contact to oppose the motion or prevent it. Two types: Static and Kinetic.
