Transformations of Exponential Functions Flashcards
1
Q
For exponential functions f(x)=ab^k(x-d)+c
what does the a value do?
A
a provides vertical stretch or compression. If it is negative it flips over x-axis
2
Q
For exponential functions f(x)=ab^k(x-d)+c
what does the k value do?
A
k provides horizontal stretch if k is less than 1 or compression if k is greater than 1. If it is negative it flips over y-axis
3
Q
For exponential functions f(x)=ab^k(x-d)+c
what does the c value do?
A
c provides vertical shift
4
Q
For exponential functions f(x)=ab^k(x-d)+c
what does the d value do?
A
d provides horizontal shift. Left if positive, right if negative
5
Q
What if there is a number in front of and behind x?
A
factor. ex- 2x-8 = 2(x-4) or -x+2 = -(x-2)
