-John Locke- Life, liberty and property.
-Friedan and Rawls- argue Lockes principles are fundamental to people’s freedoms+ should be protected.
-18th century- Mary Wollstencraft- suggested men and women should share these rights equally- modern liberals like this.

What do liberals disagree over natural rights and freedoms? p1-cp

A
  1. classical liberals such as Locke- focused on three fundamental rights- negative freedoms in place where laws only in place to prevent these being taken away
  2. modern liberals such as Friedan and Rawls- build on rights- Friedan getting rid of laws which discriminate against women/ minorities. + Rawls veil of ignorance- remove economic impediments. (more positive).

-modern libs- encourage others to take responsibility.

-modern liberals- end discrimination- Betty Friedan- Women equal to men + stop discrimination laws concening African Americans.
