The great reform act 1832
-abolishing the separate representative of the most under-populated rotten boroughs- creating seats for urban areas such as Manchester
-Granted votes to tenant farmers and smaller prop holders
-created a standard qualification for the franchise in boroughs
—electorate incr to 650,000 approx 5% of adult population
