Foundations of Interactive Systems Flashcards
Interaction Paradigm: Multimodal Interfaces
Multimodal interfaces are characterized by the possibly simultaneous use of multiple human sensory modalities and can support combined input/output modes
Interactive System Definition
An interactive system is a socio-technical system (IS) in which users perform tasks by using interactive technology in a specific context in order to achieve specified goals and outcomes
User Definition
A person who interacts with an interactive technology in order to perform a tasks.
Task Definition
A set of activities undertaken in order to achieve a specific goal
Interactive Technology Definition
Interactive technology refers to the tools available to users to interact with computers. Interactive technology can be roughly distinguished into input and output devices.
Environment Definition
The physical, social and technical conditions in which a user interacts with an interactive system
Resources Definition
All means required to use an interactive system:
- Reusable resources (e.g. equipment, information and available human-based and system-based support)
- Exhaustible resources (e.g. time, human effort, financial resources and materials)
Possible question: How do environment and resources differ in different situations
Goal definition
Intended outcome. Intention of users
Human Centered Design goes beyond functionality
Functioanlity -> accessibility -> usability -> user experience
Accessibility Definition
Accessibility is the extent to which an interactive system enables users to interact with it, regardless of their level of vision, hearing, dexterity, cognition, physical mobility, etc.
Usability Definition
The extent to which a system, product, or service can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context of use.
Analogy: Race Car steering wheel
User Experience Definition
A user’s perceptions and responses that result from the use and/or anticipated use of an interactive system.
Relationship between User Experience and Usability
Usability is effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction during actual use, while user experience is about general perceptions and responses during anticipated use, actual use and after use.
Good and bad examples for user experience?
