A
- no restraint on government, power can be abused
- oligarchy: a system of government in which a small group holds power (militarily)
- socialism: economic system in which the government owns the basic means of production, distributes the products and wages, and provides social services such as health care and welfare
- communism: central government directs all major economic decisions
- autocracy: government where power authority to rule are in the hands of a single individual
- totalitarian (dictatorship): the ideas of a single leader are gloried; government seeks to control all aspects of social and economic life
- monarchies: a king, queen or emperor exercise supreme powers of government

- government cannot act without people’s say
- democracies: government in which the people rule
- republic - government in which voters hold sovereign power; elected representatives, responsible to the people, exercise power
- constitutional government: the powers of the person or group in charge are limited by a constitution
- capitalism: laissez-faire economic system which means the government does not interfere with production and selling of goods
