Foster C03 Flashcards
Penis and Prepuce: Diseases in general
- Developmental (Disorder of Sexual Development)
- Miscellaneous Acquired disease
- Inflammation of the:
-penis - phalitis
-head of penis - balanitis
-internal sheath of prepuce - posthitis - Balanoposthitis vs phaloposthitis
- Neoplasia
Penis and Prepuce: Developmental disease
- Hypoplasia
- Deviation
- Persistent frenulum, balanopreputial folds
how does a persistent frenulum arise?
when born, penis and prepuse are fused and normally separate at puberty
Phimosis
inability to extrude penis.
Paraphimosis
failure to retract penis.
Priapism
permanently erect penis.
what can cause paraphimosis in a stallion?
Phenathiazine tranquilizer in a stallion is a bad idea - paraphimosis
complication of priapism in dog
vascular necrosis
what animals can get hair wrapped around their penis?
mostly cats and ruminants
bovine preputial eversion possible sequelae
prolapse
what is caused by bovine forced deviation?
causes a hematoma at the sigmoid flexture
-can even result in death
urolithiasis of urethral process can result in
necrosis of penis
Penis and Prepuce: Miscellaneous acquired disease; summary
-Phimosis, paraphimosis, priapism
-Trauma
-Eversion and prolapse
-Forced deviation (hematoma)
-Urolithiasis
Inflammation of penis and prepuce; common diseases
Nonspecific balanoposthitis
-Dog
-Gelding
Sexually Transmitted Diseases
-Minimal lesions if at all
Ovine posthitis (pizzle rot)
-Corynebacterium renale, urease and protein
Porcine preputial diverticulitis
Nonspecific balanoposthitis is found in what species?
dog, gelding
ovine posthitis; who is affected and pathogenesis
affects Wethers
Pathogenesis:
High protein diet
>Corynebacterium renale
>Urease production
>Ulceration, inflammation, fibrosis (of prepuce)
> cannot pee > death
porcine preputial diverticulitis pathogenesis
- Urine in preputial diverticulum
- Debris accumulates
- Inflammation
- Diverticulitis
> Ulcers in preputial diverticulum
how is canine transmissible veneral tumor spread?
Xenotransplantation
neoplasias of penis and prepuce
-canine transmissible venereal tumor
-equine squamous cell carcinoma
-bovine fibropapilloma
agent behind equine squamous cell carcinoma
Equus caballus papillomavirus-2 (EcPV-2) is contributor
agent behind bovine fibropapilloma and result
Bovine papillomavirus-1 (BPV-1)
-if young bulls get this, painful to mate and wont do it in future even though disease resolves
