Q

muscle borders of Popliteal fossa

and what forms the roof and floor?

A

Floor= knee joint capsule and by the posterior surface of the femur.

roof is made of up 2 layers; popliteal fascia and skin.

The popliteal fascia is continuous with the fascia lata of the leg.

Q

contents of popliteal fossa

which of these structures lies deepest (furthest from the overlying skin)?

A

popliteal ARTERY

This is important knowledge clinically, as when performing a peripheral vascular examination on a healthy patient, you will need to palpate more deeply than you might expect in order to locate the pulsation of the popliteal artery. Superficial to the popliteal artery, are the popliteal vein, tibial and common peroneal nerves and the short saphenous vein.

11
Q

Which structures form the boundaries, floor and roof of the ‘anatomical snuff box’?

which artery passes?

A

The(medial) boundary > tendon of extensor pollicis longus The (lateral) boundary > tendon of extensor pollicis brevis. tendons of abductor pollicis longus

The floor> scaphoid bone

roof > skin.

RADIAL ARTERY

(brave enough to go to the outer side) ;p=brevis

Q

What is the name of the tunnel through which the ulnar nerve passes to enter the forearm?

Which structures form this tunnel?

A

cubital tunnel this is formed by the tendinous arch joining the humeral and ulnar heads of the attachment of flexor carpi ulnaris.

Q

 What is the function of the femoral canal?

A

the empty space allows distension of the adjacent femoral vein, so it can cope with increase dvenous return or increased intra-abdominol pressure.

Q

Describe the anatomy and composition of the menisci of the knee joint. What is their role?

A
  • load transmission
  • shock absorber
  • instability
  • nutrition

**it basically fills gaps, spreads the forces, by giving a bigger surface area,

-lateral parts r vascualr but inside isnt, it is nourished by synovial fluid.

17
Q

 Indicate the safe sites for intramuscular injection in the gluteal region .

what should u be careful from when administering it?

A

avoid injury to the sciatic nerve

1) Dorsogluteal injection site >> above 3 years old

2) Ventrogluteal injection site >> above 7yrs old

To locate the ventrogluteal site, place the palm of one hand over the greater trochanter of the femur, point your thumb towards the inguinal region and your index finger toward the ASIS. Spread the index and middle fingers to make a V and inject between the PIPJ of your fingers into the gluteus medius muscle.

18
Q

what is Pes Ansernie?

A
19
Q

What bony landmarks are used to determine the course of the sciatic nerve

i) as it leaves the pelvic cavity,
ii) as it enters the thigh?

A
20
Q

Which ligaments convert the greater and lesser sciatic notches into foramina? What is the role of these ligaments in the erect posture (standing upright)?

A

Sacrospinous and sacrotuberous ligaments.

The ligaments limit rotation of the inferior part of the sacrum during transmission of weight of the body down the vertebral column in the erect position.

21
Q
