Form and function Flashcards

1
Q

Functionalists definition and what movement supports this and why

A

they believe form should follow function of a product, this is seen more in modern art movements as the form of a product must suite its function. As for mass production products need to be simple to be produced for profit

Q

What do people believe is more important today and give an example

A

today both form and function is important because there are many choices in the modern world so a product needs to have good functions and look good. But the product performances are less of an issue due to guarantees. E.g. trainers - they are made to be comfortable but they style of them are also very important

Why is design for the target market important

A

as if the style is not enjoyable to the people then the product will not succeed but if it is good then people will feel as if they need the product

Q

Existing product analysis - primary research - what happens during the research

A

the designer has the product in front of them and they can take it apart to see how it has been made, touch and feel the materials used, purposely damage to see what limits it has, hold/use the product, fully evaluate its aesthetics, monitor energy used, look at materials with regard to environment - this is the most effective analysis
