Q

strength

A

research support that agrees with prediction of theory

  • he compared prisoners scores with a control group of non-prisoners and found that criminals have a higher rate across the three dimensions
  • strength because it’s a provided direct support for the basic principles of his theory
  • however conflicting research as a researcher conducted a meta analysis and found offenders scored high on the psychoticism but not neuroticism extroversion, inconsistent evidence which casts doubt on his theory

Q

limitation two

A

too simplistic therefore reductionist
-psychologist stated personality alone cannot explain offending behaviour this is limitation as he did not include other factors, his theory is reductionist, therefore we need to include holistic factors and take an interactionist approach such as including individual personality traits alongside environmental reactions to those traits
