FORENSIC, ao1 level of moral reasoning Flashcards
what did Kohlberg say
he was the first person to apply the concept of moral reasoning to criminal behaviour and gave us the stage theory to explain moral reasoning, so understanding of morals becomes more sophisticated with age (maturation)
what did Kohlberg do his research on
on children and gave them dilemmas (eg Heinz) in order to test moral reasoning which is how we came up with the stage theory
What stage are people who offend in
Preconventional stage of morality however, they can come into the conventional stage of morality but will not move beyond this
what happens in the preconventional stage
avoid punishment and gain rewards, this stage is immature and childlike thinking, these criminals are egocentric so they are self-centred and have no social perspective or empathy
