What is forensic anthropology
Applies physical anthropology to the legal process by identifying skeletal, badly decomposed or unidentified human remains.
What can anthropology uncover?
Cause of death, disease, surgical procedures, current damage to bones, etc.
What anthropology uncover about the identity of the bones?
The individuals height. body, weight, physique. However it can also mean a non-human organism such as a dog.
How does it find identity?
Age - looking at bone length, bone fusion, teeth. (Works up until 25-30 years old.
Sex - different pelvis, skull, femur.
Stature - size of bones.
Ancestry - teeth, skull.
What 2 areas of the bone help determine a skeleton’s sex?
Pelvis and hip
One area of the body that can determine age.
