Forelimb lameness - static exam Flashcards

1
Q

General principles

A

▪Make sure the horse is safely restrained and calm to examine –
change the environment if not (Friends, Food, Freedom)

▪Palpate both legs for comparison

▪Look for the cardinal signs of disease – heat, pain and swelling (including synovial effusion)

▪Don’t jump to conclusions – remember findings may be old or insignificant. Make good records and interpret in light of other clinical findings (history, dynamic exam and diagnostic tests)
