forearm and elbow Flashcards
forearm
part of the upper limb that extends between the elbow joint and the wrist joint
- divided into anterior and posterior compartment
muscles of the anterior compartment of the forearm
flex the wrist and digits and pronate the hand
muscle of the posterior compartment of the forearm
extend the wrist and digits and supinate the hand
radius bone
- lateral in position
- large distally where it articulates with the wrist
- small proximal where it articulates w/humerus
proximal = head, neck, radial tuberosity
distal = two facets for articulation w/carpal bones
ulna bone
- medial
- proximal and distal are reverse from radius
proximal = olecranon, coronoid process, trochlear notch, radial notch, tuberosity of ulna
distal = small, rounded head, ulnar styloid process
interosseous membrane
thin fibrous sheet = connects medial & lateral borders of the radius and ulna
