Forces in Fluid Flashcards
How Does a Barometer Work
trap air inside & use semi-permeable membrane - compares them
Low Pressure Barometer
membrane pushes up
Example of Pascal
brake in car & toothpaste tube
High Pressure Barometer
membrane pushes down
Bernoulli’s Principle & Example
the faster the fluid there is less pressure the slower the fluid the more pressure - ex. birds wing, spray bottle, frizbee disc, chimney
Pascal’s Principle
stated that when force is applied to a confined fluid, the change in pressure is transmitted equally to all parts of the fluid
Example of Archimedes Principle
bath tub - fill with water & get it the water goes up
How to Change Density
1) add more mass (add water to submarine to sink)
2) increase temp (particles move faster)
Float vs. Sink
floating means the force is less than the force of the water pushing up - sink means the force is greater than the force of the water pushing up
Fluid Motion
fluid going from high con. to low con.
Balanced Pressure and Example
when pressure is released from high con to low con. - ex. opening pop can
Archimedes Principle
states that the buoyancy force acting on the submerged object is = to the weight of the fluid the object displaced
Change in Pressure What Happens & Example
pressure gets released from high con. to low con. - ex. ears pop on an airplane
Measure Air Pressure
barometer - mercury and aneroid
Pressure Change From Earth
atmosphere (high) low pressure deep ocean high pressure
