Often considered as the medial part of the extensor digitorum brevis muscle

* Lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of 5th digit
Action:
* Abduction of 5th digit at MPT joint

* Lateral plantar nerve

Origin:
* Tendons of flexor digitorum longus
Insertion:
* Dorsal aponeurosis and medial side of the extensor expansion of digits (e.g. 1st lumbrical–>2nd digit)
Action:
* Flexion of digit at MTP
* Extension of digit at IP
Innervation:
Lumbrical #1:
* Medial plantar nerve
Lumbricals #2-4:
* Lateral plantar nerve

Origin:
* Medial head: Medial surface of calcaneus
* Lateral head: Lateral process of calcaneal tuberosity; Long plantar ligament
Insertion:
* Lateral sides of tendon of flexor digitorum longus in proximal sole of the foot
Action
Assists flexor digitorum longus in:
* Flexion of digits #2–5 at MTP, IP joints
Innervation
* Lateral plantar nerve

* Oblique head: Bases of 2nd – 4th metatarsals; Sheath of fibularis longus tendon
* Transverse head: Plantar metatarsophalangeal ligaments of digits #3-5
Insertion:
* Lateral side of the base of the proximal phalanx of the great toe
Action
* Adduction of digit #1 at MTP joint
* Support longitudinal and transverse arches of the foot
Innervation
* Deep branch of lateral plantar nerve

* Sheath of fibularis longus tendon

* Base of the lateral side of the proximal phalanx of the 5th digit
Action
* Flexion of digit #5 at the MTP joint
* Supports lateral longitudinal arch of the foot
Innervation
* Superficial branch of lateral plantar nerve
Plantar interossei #1-3 IO Action Innervation
Origin:
* Base and medial border of 3rd, 4th and 5th
metatarsal bones
Insertion:
* Medial base of the proximal phalanges
* Extensor expansions of 3rd, 4th and 5th digits
Action:
* Adduction+Flexion of digit at MTP joint
* Extension of digit #3 at IP joints
(1st–>3rd digit and so on)
Innervation:
* Lateral plantar nerve

Origin:
* Adjacent sides of metatarsals 1-5
Insertion:
* 1st: medial base of the proximal pharlanx of
of 2nd digit
* 2nd-4th: lateral base of the proximal pharlanx of 2nd-4th digits
Action:
1st:
* Adduction + Flexion of 2nd digit at MTP joint
* Extension of digit #2 at IP joints
