Foot and Ankle Imaging Flashcards
Outside of your ankle views, what bones have their own specific views
- calcaneal
- Toes
What is a Weber A fracture ?
A fracture of lateral Mal. Below syndesmosis
What is a Weber B fracture ?
A fracture of lateral Mal. at the syndesmosis level
What is a Weber C fracture ?
A lat Mal. Fracture above the syndesmosis
What is the Weber classification indicating
Level of instability - increasing instability from A - C
What is the Pots classification of fractures
Describes how many malleoli are involved
How do we check alignment of an AP ankle?
Fibula slightly overlapping superolateral talus
Both Mal. In profile
Talocrural jt space open
How do we check alignment of an ankle mortise (oblique) view? (4)
- Fibula should not overlap talus
- TC jt open
- Both Mal. seen in profile
- 5th MT base should be seen
How do we check alignment of a lateral ankle
- TC jt open and uniform
- The distal fibula should be superimposed by the post. Aspect of the distal Tib.
- The Talar domes should be superimposed
What is Bohler’s angle looking for and what is abnormal
Calcaneal fracture
Less than 20 degree angle suggests fracture
What is a maisonneuve injury?
Proximal fibular fracture and widening of distal syndesmosis and deltoid injury
How do we check alignment of an AP foot
- Jt space between 1st and 2nd MT open
- 2cm of calc. Visualised
- Tarsometatarsal jt open
- MT bases superimposed
How big should the space between 1st and 2nd ray on foot X-ray be? (Lisfranc)
No larger than 2.5mm
How do we check alignment of an Oblique foot x ray? (2)
- Proximal 1st and 2nd MT overlapping, as well as medial and interm. cuneiforms
- Jt space of 3rd to 5th TMT jt open as well as calcaneocuboid jt
How do we check alignment of a lateral foot x ray
- MT nearly completely superimposed
- Fib. Overlapping distal portion of tibia
- Domes of talus superimposed
