foot Flashcards
What bones make up hind foot
Calcaneus and talus
What bones make up mid foot
cuboid, navicular, cuneiform
What bones make up forefoot
phalanges and metatarsals
Saphenous nerve
supplies skin over medial side of foot as far as 1st metatarsal
lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve
continuation of sural nerve into the foot
superficial peroneal nerve
supply skin of the medial part of the dorsum of the foot
deep peroneal nerve
supplies skin between 1st and 2nd toes
Extensor digitorum brevis
ONLY INTRINSIC MUSCLE OF THE DORSUM OF FOOT
- extends toes 2-4
medial calcaneal branch of tibial nerve
supply the heal area
medial plantar nerve
supplies skin of medial 3.5 digits
Lateral plantar nerve
supplies later 1.5 digits
Flexor retinaculum
thickening of plantar fascia
Plantar aponeurosis
- central part of plantar fascia
- very THICK and STRONG longitudinally arranged fibers
- SUPPORTS LONGITUDINAL ARCHES OF FOOT
- prevents injury
- extends from calcaneus to the toes
Medial plantar nerve
- larger than lateral plantar nerve
- LOCATED BETWEEN 1st and 2nd layers (deep to abductor hallucis brevis
- SUPPLIES CUTANEOUS BRANCH TO 3.5 digits
What muscles does Medial plantar nerve supply
- abductor hallucis
- flexor digitorum brevis
- flexor hallucis brevis
- 1st lumbrical
lateral plantar nerve
passes DEEP to abductor hallucis
- provides cutaneous branches to lateral 1.5 digits
- PROVIDES motor branches to REST OF INTRINSIC MUSCLES
Saphenous
- branch of femoral nerve
- sensory to medial side of foot
arterial supply to sole of foot
- from posterior tibial
- medial and lateral plantar arteries
- supply plantar muscles
- ANASTOMOSE WITH ARTERIES ON DORSUM OF FOOT
Medial plantar artery
passes BETWEEN abductor hallucis and flexor digitorum brevis
- SUPPLIES medial side of great toes
Lateral plantar artery
- runs obliquely across foot to lateral side
- joins with deep plantar branch of dorsalic pedis to complete deep plantar arch
- provides four plantar metatarsal
