Advise patients not to drink or eat grapefruit with
calcium channel blockers, statins, antihistmaine, corticosteroids, macrolides, carbamazepine, amiodarone, and quinidine
grapefruit interfers with the small intestine enzyme CYP3A4
Advise patients not to drink alcohol when taking
metronidazole
will cause severe vomiting, patients need to wait 48 hours after completion of medicaiton before drinking alcohol
advise patients not to eat large amounts of foods containing vitamin K when taking
warfarin
they can have small quanities occasionally
advise patients taking MAOIs to avoid these foods
aged cheese, cured/smoked meats, soybeans, beer, liqueurs, and red wines, pickled/fermentd foods, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, dried or overrippened fruits
any food that contains Tyramine, the interaction will be severe hypertension
Fluroquinolones and tertacyclines should not be taken with
dairy products such as milk, yogurt or cheese
it will decrease the amount of medication in the bloodstream
advise an alcoholic to avoid taking this drug while drinking
acetaminophen
the combination increases a risk for toxicity
the combination of SSRIs and alcohol increase the risk for
GI bleeds
