Food poisoning is an illness that can happen after eating contaminated food
What is Contamination?
Contamination occurs when something gets into food that should not be there. E.g. bacteria.
What is bacteria?
Bacteria is a microscopic organism which might cause illness e.g. food poisoning
What is food hygiene?
Food hygiene is ensuring that food is safe to eat and has been protected from contamination
What is a microorganism?
A microorganism is a tiny living thing too small that you need a microscope to see it. They can cause food poisoning.
What is food poisoning most likely and usually caused by?
A microorganism called bacteria
What is food poisoning also caused by?
Food poisoning can also be caused by mould.
What does mould look like?
Mould grows on the surface of food has a furry green/blue appearance
What are three foods that develop mould if they store for too long or are stored incorrectly?
Cheese, bread, and fruit
Are all microorganisms harmful?
No some are very useful
