What is the male gamete called?
Spermatozoa (sperm).
What is the female gamete called?
Oocyte or ovum.
Where does fertilization typically occur?
In the ampulla of the uterine tube.
Where is the pelvic cavity located?
Within the bony pelvis, between the pelvic inlet and outlet, continuous with the abdominal cavity.
What separates the pelvic cavity from the perineum?
The pelvic floor, composed of skeletal muscle.
What is the peritoneal cavity?
The space between the parietal peritoneum and the visceral peritoneum covering the organs.
What are the internal organs of the female reproductive system?
Ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and vagina.
What are the external organs of the female reproductive system?
Mons pubis, clitoris, and labia.
Name the three layers of the uterus.
Perimetrium (outer), myometrium (muscular middle), and endometrium (inner).
What does ‘anteflexed’ mean in uterus positioning?
The uterus is tipped forward relative to the cervix.
What does ‘anteverted’ mean in uterus positioning?
The cervix is tipped forward relative to the vagina.
What is the rectouterine pouch?
A peritoneal fold between the rectum and uterus.
What is the utero-vesicle pouch?
A peritoneal fold between the uterus and bladder.
What do the ovaries produce?
Ova (eggs) and sex hormones like estrogen and progesterone.

Penis and scrotum.
Name the internal organs of the male reproductive system.
Epididymis, vas deferens, ejaculatory duct, urethra, prostate gland, and seminal glands.
Where are sperm produced?
In the seminiferous tubules.
What happens during ejaculation?
Sperm travel from the testes through the vas deferens, mix with seminal fluid, and are released through the urethra.
Where does implantation occur?
In the body of the uterus.
What is an ectopic pregnancy?
When the fertilized egg implants outside the uterine cavity.
What is female sterilization?
Tubal ligation, where uterine tubes are cut, clipped, or cauterized to prevent egg movement.
What is male sterilization?
Vasectomy, where the vas deferens is severed to prevent sperm from mixing with semen during ejaculation.
What is fascia?
Connective tissue that surrounds and binds together deep structures in the body.
Name the two types of fascia.
Superficial fascia and deep fascia (investing).
What are two functions of fascia?
Packing and insulation, and thermoregulation.
What is compartment syndrome?
Increased pressure in a muscle compartment, treated with fasciotomy.
What are the phases of embryogenesis?
Gametogenesis, fertilization, cleavage, gastrulation, embryo folding, organogenesis, and the fetal period.
What is Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21) caused by?
An extra copy of chromosome 21 due to nondisjunction during cell division.
