Q

How are they formed?

A

Rivers carried sediment to ancient seas which where deposited in huge depressions
Over millions of years sediment compressed- sedimentary rock
As two continental plates move towards eachother they push the layers of sediment into folds as the plates buckle as neither can be destroyed
Continue to grow upwards as plates constantly move towards eachother
