How to change DRIVE AF
button (top left front) + Main Dial to change.
Name the three dive modes
One Shot, SERVO, M-Focus
One Shot
stationary subject like stills. Can focus on subject and lock the focus by half pressing shutter then move the camera and full press the shutter to take the shot.
SERVO
Subjects moving towards or away from the camera. Tracking is different in movie vs still.
M-Focus
static scenes like landscapes, change lens button to MF.
How to access the AF Point button
(top right back corner), can use the Main Dial button to cycle thru.
Name the eight AF Points
- Spot AF
- 1-Point AF
- Expand AF Area
- Expand AF Area Around
- Flexible Zone AF1
- Flexible Zone AF2
- Flexible Zone AF3
- Whole Area AF
Spot AF
pin point such as eyes. Smallest
1-Point AF
small point or specific area. 2nd largest
Expanded AF Area
moving subjects such as a bird (head) flying.
Expanded AF Area Around
same as Expanded AF Area with a few more areas around it (bear face moving).
Flexible Zone AF-1
moving and erratic subject (eagle flying) – customizable box.
Flexible Zone AF-2
same as AF1 with prioritize faces and vertical box.
Flexible Zone AF-3
same as AF1 with prioritize faces and horizontal box.
Whole Area AF
analyze whole area and closest to you with face priority.
What is Dual Pixel CMOS AF system
compares pixel on the left and right.
How to set SUBJECT TRACKING
go to AF1 menu and turn on and choose subject to detect:
People
Animals
Vehicles - spot detection on = detection of the driver’s head.
Front Multi Function-2 button
(front of camera next to the lens, top button) – locks on to the area of tracking such as an eye when you press this button.
What are the five ways to change focus area?
- Joystick
- Smart Controller
- Dial
- Touch Screen
- Eye Control
Change focus area with Smart Controller (top, AF On)
CustomFunction-5 menu to enable and set sensitivity.
Can be set to press and activate or during metering activate.
Change focus area with EYE CONTROL
setupMenu-4, can turn on/off by pressing SET in middle of quick control-1, can set up to six people or scenarios.
Back Button Focusing
can turn on in CustomMenu. Instead of half press the shutter to focus, you can press the AF ON button to focus.
Manual Focus Peaking
AFmenu-5, Peaking=on/off, level=low/high, color=red/yellow/blue. Can be used to select sharp horizontal areas of a frame in manual mode focusing.
FOCUS ASSIST
AFmenu-5, FocusAssist=on/0ff. Shows a smiley face focus meter to tell you when you are in focus.
What is Focus Bracketing
Take a series of pictures and compile them into one.
It select the best focus area of each one and combine it.
Must use external software to combine it.
How to use Focus Bracketing
ShootMenu6, FocusBracketing=Enable, NumberOfShots=2-999, FocusIncrements=1-10, ExposureSmoothness=Enable.
When is Focus Bracketing used?
Non moving subjects,
camera must be on tripod,
manual exposure,
f8 to f11 aperture.
