What is drag force?
a force that acts in opposition to motion
2 types
- Surface drag
- Form drag
What is surface drag?
relating to friction between the surface of an object
What is form drag?
relates to the impact of the fluid environment on an object
What are the factors that effect drag?
Greater velocity = greater drag force
Streamlining
Shape of body
Large cross sectional area = increase drag
What is the Bernoulli principle?
where air molecules exert less pressure the faster they travel and more pressure when they travel slower
What is lift force?
When pressure is higher below the object instead of above so pushes the object up
What is the angle of attack?
the tilt of a projectile relative to the air flow
upward lift force = discuss
downward lift force = f1 car
