Answer 1

• Flight data recorder: AC & DC powered
• NORMAL:
  
  • guarded position
  • IN FLIGHT: operates anytime electrical power is available
  • GROUND: operates anytime electrical power is available AND either engine must also be operating
• TEST:
  
  • powers the flight recorder on the ground
  • OFF light SHOULD go out

OFF LIGHT

Answer 2

• Illuminated (AMBER):
  
  • indicates FDR is NOT operating OR the test is invalid
  • may indicate:
    
    • power failure
    • loss of input data
    • electronic malfunction
• this light will initially be ON until engine start - after ‘soft click’ is heard the light should go out
• on shutdown of the SECOND ENGINE you can hear the same ‘soft click’ (at approx 18 psi oil pressure)
