FLIGHT CONTROLS Flashcards

1
Q

The Speed Brakes can only be deployed under what conditions.

A
  • Flaps Retracted
  • Indicated Airspeed Greater than or Equal to 125 KTS
  • Any TLA (Thrust Lever Angle) lower than MAX CRZ

Q

If Spoiler panels are Opened (extended) as a Speed Brake, they will retract if:

A
  • Flaps are commanded to open (extend)
  • Indicated airspeed reduces to less than 125 KTS
  • Both TLAs (Thrust Lever Angles) greater than MAX CRZ (38 degrees)

(A SPDBRK SW DISAG message will be displayed)

Ground Spoilers are armed when:

A

Any Wheel speed is above 50 KTS

At least 3 of 4 WOW sensors indicate airplane is airborne more than 10 seconds.

Q

During Landing, Ground Spiloers Automatically deploy when Both TLAs are set to the IDLE position and one of the following conditions occur:

A

At least 3 of 4 WOW sensors indicate aircraft is on the ground.
or
Both WOW sensors on left main landing gear indicate the wheel is in the ground and the left wheel speed sensor indicates the wheel is spinning above 50 KTS
or
Both WOW sensors on the Right main landing gear indicate the wheel on the ground and the right wheel sensor indicates wheel is spinning above 50 KTS

** ALL panels deploy symmetrically to 35 degrees in approximately 1.2 seconds.

Q

After Landing, when do the Ground Spoilers retract?

A

The Ground Spoiler panels remain deployed if any WOW returns to air (10 seconds) after being on the ground (bounced on landing). They will retract if any thrust lever is advanced past IDLE.

Also, the Ground Spoiler function is disarmed and Spoiler panels retract automatically when the wheel is spinning below 45 KTS.

Q

What are FCE’s?

A

Flight Control Electronics

FCE1 - Flaps

FCE2 - Spoilers

The FCE is an electronic unit capable of controlling and monitoring up to two electromechanical actuators and two electro hydraulic actuators.

Q

In what mode is the VENTRAL RUDDER CONTROL (VRC) operating in the following scenarios:

  1. After start and self test
  2. During Takeoff (60kts or >)
  3. Yaw damper engaged.
  4. Yaw Damper Disengages
  5. After Landing
A
  1. After start and self test: Servo is engaged and surface is moved to center position mode.
  2. During Takeoff (60kts or >): Transitions from Center Position mode to Dampening Mode (It performs as a Yaw Damper Function)
  3. Yaw damper engaged: VRC goes into Streamlining mode. In this mode, it will look for a position where servo torque is close to zero. It corresponds to a position where ventral rudder surface is aligned with the airstream, so it does not generate any yaw tendency to the airplane
  4. Yaw Damper Disengages: VRC transitions back to dampening mode
  5. After Landing: VRC surface is moved to center position
