AFAA Guidelines for stretching:

A
  1. Hold each stretch for 15-60 seconds
  2. Perform 1-4 repetitions or offer a variety of stretches for the same muscle or muscle group.
  3. Hold stretch to the point of tension/mild discomfort but not pain.
  4. Static stretches best done at the end of the class.
  5. Ballistic stretching can elicit the stretch reflex.
