FITT Principles and Additional Principles of Training Flashcards
Frequency
How it can be applied in training?
How often an athlete trains over a period of time. 3 times a week? As the athlete becomes fitter this may increase.
They will increase the amount they train over time as they get fitter.
Intensity
How it can be applied?
How hard someone trains . Whatever the type of training it must be carried out at a worthwhile level of intensity. As the athlete becomes fitter this will increase.
The intensity of the training would increase as they get fitter.
Time
How it can be applied?
How long each training session must last in order to be of any benefit . As the athlete becomes fitter this may increase.
There training sessions could start off short but become longer.
Type
How it can be applied?
Means the methods of training chosen to achieve a persons particular goal. Athletes may wish to improve a component of fitness, so they will pick a type of training to achieve this.(e.g continuous training to improve Aerobic endurance.
There methods could change depending on how high there goal is.
Progressive overload
How it can be applied in training?
In order to progress, training needs to be demanding enough to cause the body to adapt, improving performance.
You could run a 4 1/2 miles the first week and then the second week you could run 5 miles.
Individual needs/differences
How it can be applied?
Training should be specific to the individuals sport , activity or physical/skill related fitness goals to be developed.
Depending on the sport(eg swimming) , you need to focus on the skills to do with that sport.
Adaptation
How it can be applied?
How the body reacts to training loads by increasing its a ability to cope with those loads.Adaption occurs during the recovery period after the training session is completed.
Give yourself a rest, so your muscles can repair to there training that is required of you.
Reversibility
If training stops , or the intensity of training is not sufficient to cause adaption , training affects are reversed.
Variation
It is important to vary training regime to avoid boredom and maintain enjoyment.
Rest and recovery
it is required so that the body can recover from the training and to allow adaption to occur.
