What is a fitness report?
One person’s evaluation of one Marine at one rank in one billet.
A fitness report is a ‘simple communication’ between who?
Reporting officials and selection boards, essentially a “Letter of Recommendation”.
Is a fitness report a disciplinary tool?
NO!
Who are the key players of a fitness report?
- Marine Report On (MRO): Officer or enlisted; Sgt - MajGen subject to the performance evaluation.
- Reporting Senior (RS): First officer/civilian GS-9 in CoC; can be of equal ranking.
- Reviewing Officer (RO): First commissioned officer/GS-10 in CoC.
- Third Officer Sighting: required for adverse reports; normally the RS of the RO.

What are the Performance Anchored Rating Scales (PARS)?
PARS are 14 professional attributes located on pages 2-4 which are evaluated on a range from A-G (1-7).
What is a reporting profile?
List of all fitness report scores an RS has recorded for a particular rank.
Who updates & maintains an RS’s profile?
HQMC
What are fitness reports a comparison of?
Past & present performances.
What is Relative Value (RV)?
The FITREP system’s way of compensating for grading differences between RS’s.
What is the Reviewing Officer (RO) comparative assessment?

What should report comments reflect?
- Summarize the MRO’s performance during the reporting period.
- Demonstrated proficiency in execution of assigned duties.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Endorsement for promotion & increased responsibility.
What does a single adverse comment do to a fitness report?
Renders the entire report adverse.
What does a fitness report consist of?
5-pages; 12-lettered sections; 14-attributes
