Q

sharks senses

A

Chemoreception (taste/smell) highly developed. Lateral Line system=canal system on sides and head, receptors sensitive to vibrations and currents. Ampullary organs of Lorenzini=receptors on head sensitive to electric fields produced by animals in close range. passive electroreception (not generating own electric field). Active electrolocation= conductive objects, concentrate the field and resistant objects, and the spread the field.

CLASS ACTINOPTERYGII-RAY FINNED FISH

A

Fins supported by cartilage or bone spines. OSTEICHTHYES=BONYFISH, General characterisitics: partially or completely bony skeleton, operculum(gill cover) increases water flow, respiration efficiency, swim bladder in many to control buoyancy, Respiration=countercurrent gill circulation, cutaneous respiration(ex. eels on overland tips, air gulped into vascular mouth cavity ex.carp
