FIRST AID Flashcards
bleeding,cpr, hypothermia, shock, heat issues
First Aid responsibilities
Scene safety, PPE, assess patient vitals
what are normal vitals for a Adult
pulse: 60-100 BPM
Breathing: 12-20 BPM
when transferring a patient you need to log
Name of EMS, time of transfer, Patient condition
Initial assessment includes
General condition, life threatening injuries? injury type,
the nature of the injury, mechanism of injury, level of consciousness
you should do what before moving a patient?
brief them
Motion Sickness is?
a imbalance between visual images and the part of the ear that senses motion (equilibrium)
Causes of motion sickness are
stress, rolling of the boat, tasks that require attention
Symptoms of motion sickness are
vomiting, salivation, paleness, sweating, Drowsiness
ways to prevent motion sickness
stay out of confined spaces, fresh air, look at the horizon,
don’t smoke, medication
Shock is?
shortage of oxygen being delivered thought the body
the two types of evidence are?
subjective, and objective evidence
subjective evidence is?
conditions the patient can feel
objective evidence is?
things that can be observed by others
Causes of shock are
Trauma, Bleeding, fractures, burns, hypothermia, drugs,
allergies, heart attack, dehydration
Symptoms of shock are?
Restlessness, thirst, nausea, fatigue, fright, dizziness, feeling of doom
sign of shock are?
a weak or rapid pulse, shallow rapid breathing, the skin
will be pale, cold, clammy, dilated pupils, state of consciousness
CPR
20%- 80%?
20 percent of your body weight is already applied before you compress. Then you alpply 80%
CPR
Cardio pulmonary resuscitation
Is artificial respiration and cardiac compressions
CPR is used to
Restore blood flow to the brain
You get on sceen with a unconscious person. You bring them on board .. GO
1.) Assess patient vitals for 5-10 seconds
2.) If no pulse begin 100-120 compressions for 2 min
3.) 02 rescue breaths
4.) Reassess vitals
5.) begin 30:2
Continue untill sighns of life or higher care is on scene
1 breath every
6 sec
Stroke: F.A.S.T.
face droop, arm weakness, slurred speach, time.
1st degree burns
superficial: only outer layer, red, tender,
2nd degree burns
partial thickness: blisters, severe pain redness
3rd degree burns
destroyed nerve endings: black, destroyed both layers of skin
3 types of bleeding
arterial: spurting, bright red
veineous : oozing stedy dark red
capillary: slow even flow
4 types of bandages
direct pressure
pressure bandage
elevation
TQ
2 types of fractures
compound: open
Simple : closed
heat exhaustion
bodily fluids are lost through heavy sweating, sweat dosent evaporate as it should
heat stroke
thermo-regulatory mechanisms are not working, temp of 105 degrees F
anterior is __
the front of the body
posterior is ___
the back of the body
