Fire Protection/ Detection Flashcards
What unlocks the engine fire switch
Fire warning (auto)
Fuel control switch in cutoff (auto)
Pushing the fire override switch
How many engine fire extinguishers are provided
Two fire extinguishers for each wing
What occurs when an engine fire switch is pulled
Closes related engine and fuel spar valves
Closes related engine bleed air valve
Trips off related generator
Shuts off hydraulic fluid to the related engine driven hydraulic pump
Depressurizes the related engine driven hydraulic pump
Arms both related engine fire extinguishers
How many APU fire bottles are provided
One
Can you shutdown the APU from outside the airplane
Yes. APU ground panel. Right body gear well
Red fire light
Red handle shuts down APU and arms bottle
Push to discharge
What action discharges the fire extinguisher for engine APU
Pulling fire switch arms the squib
Rotating the switch selects the bottle and discharges into nacelle or apu
Fire protection fwd or aft lower cargo
4 dual loop detectors
Sample air drawn through detectors
Both loops must sense smoke
4 Fire bottles total
A&B discharge right away
C&D metered for 180 or 210min
Once committed to compartment all fire bottles are used
What happens when you push FWD or AFT cargo fire ARM switch
Turns off two packs
Arms lower cargo compartment
Configures equip cool to override
Turns off all airflow and heat to lower cargo
Closes master trim air valve
What type of compartment is the Main Deck cargo compartment
Class E
What happens when you push the Cargo Fire Depressurization Switch with the Main Deck Cargo Fire Arm Switch Armed
Initiates a controlled cabin depressurization
FL250
What happens when you push the main deck cargo Fire ARM switch?
- Enables main deck fire suppression
- Turns off two packs
- Configures equipment cooling into closed loop mode
- Turns off airflow to main deck
- turns off airflow and heat to lower cargo compartments
- Closes master trim air valve
Describe the engine fire overheat detection system
Dual loop fire
Dual loop over heat
Both loops must detect condition
Auto reconfig to single loop with failure
APU fire/overheat detection
Dual loop fire
Either loop detect activates APU fire warn and shuts down APU
No overheat
Describe the cargo compartment fire detect
Lower fwd and aft compartment have 4 dual loop
Main cargo 16 dual loop
Sample air drawn in
Both loops must detect unless config single loop
What happens if a fault occurs in one loop upon completing any fire or overheat fault test
- Configures for single or dual loop automatically
- single operable loop senses fire or overheat sends warning
- one of two loops in cargo senses fire or overheat additional testing initiated
- if other loop fails or senses fire then signal activated
- no second signal then fault code for first loop, single loop config, and auto testing every 60 seconds
What fire detection is provided in wheel wells
Each main gear well has single loop detector
Is there smoke detection provided for crew rest areas
Yes. Smoke detectors. Aural warning sounds in crew compartment
Lav smoke detector/protection
- smoke detectors
- aural warning in the lav
- automatic extinguisher in waste compartment
