Fire Protection Flashcards
What is a valid indication of an engine fire?
Left or right fire handle and HP fuel cock illuminated
When is the engine fire detection fault test normally performed?
During every preflight (on the Before Starting Engines checklist)
What are the indications when either engine fire test switch is selected?
- Loop A & B lights in the test switch
- Fire handle and HP fuel cock illuminate
- Red “ENGINE HOT” CAS message
- Red “ENG FIRE LOOP ALRT” CAS message
- Both red master warning light capsules illuminate
A red “AFT EQUIP HOT” CAS message indicates high temperatures exist in the tail compartment.
A bleed air leak is a likely cause of the indication. How is the faulty side identified?
Check for
- High TGT
- High fuel flow
- Low EPR
- Low (or abnormal) bleed pressure
What is the corrective action for an amber “ENG FLT LOOP ALRT” CAS message and “FAULT” illuminating on the fire detection panel?
Disable the faulty loop
What is the corrective action for a red “PYLON HOT” CAS message?
Turn the appropriate bleed air switch OFF
What items are disabled by pulling a fire handle?
- Fuel (at tank; engine fuel feed shutoff valve)
- Hydraulics (at reservoir)
- Thrust Reverser
- Electrics (at alternator)
What is the first step following the display of a red “ENGINE HOT” CAS message?
Turn the affected engine bleed air switch OFF
If an amber “ENG FLT LOOP ALRT” CAS message is not resolved, what would be the indications in the event of a subsequent engine fire?
The affected engine’s fire handle and HP fuel cock would not illuminate
Upon detection of a fire in the APU, will the fire extinguisher discharge automatically?
NO.
- The APU fire extinguisher must be manually discharged by lifting the guard and depressing the APU Fire Ext Switch
What temperature will the fire bottle thermally discharge?
220° F
