Fire Protection Flashcards

1
Q

What is the overheat detection?

A

On the right engine nacelle

If temp exceeds 170 degrees

Will get CAP ‘NAC 2 OVHT’

Q

What is the engine fire detection system?

A

Two identical loops A and B

Loops parallel to each other

Powered by the DC emergency bus

6
Q

What should you do if you get a right NAC overheat warning?

A
  • right engine power lever to ground idle
  • condition lever to feather then fuel shut off

If on taxi, usually caused by a tailwind
- stop aircraft and increase power slightly
- shut down engine if overheat still exists after 30 seconds

7
Q

What does the FCDU measure in the loop?

A

Measures the resistance and the capacitance

Will trigger a warning if resistance decreases and capacitance increases

Both loops have to detect a fire to trigger a warning

8
Q

What fire warning will you get?

A
  • CRC
  • master warning
  • fire handle will illuminate red
  • FUEL SO light on condition lever
  • ENG FIRE light on CAP

9
Q

What should do if a loop FAULT light illuminates?

A

Must be deselected otherwise the loops will not detect a fire

Only the other loop will be used to detect a fire

10
Q

If the loop is broken can it still detect a fire?

A

If there is one break then yes as the loop is still connected to the controller, if there are two breaks then no

12
Q

What does the fire protection consist of?

A

Two fire bottles containing halon gas pressurised to 600 psi

Located on each side of the fuselage

Either bottle can be used for either engine

14
Q

What will pulling the fire handle do?

A
  • It will arm the associated squibs on each fire bottle
  • The SQUIB light will illuminate
  • close the engines bleed and high pressure bleed valves
  • closes the engines associated engine pneumatic de ice valve and isolation valve
  • trips the associated DC and ACW generator fields
  • closes the engines low pressure fuel valve
  • runs the electronic feathering pump to feather the propeller

15
Q

Why should you shut down the engine before pulling the fire handle?

A

Because pulling the fire handle closes the low pressure fuel shut off valve and this could prevent the restarting of the engine later

16
Q

When will the fuel shut off light extinguish on the CL?

A
  • after fuel is shut off
  • after a fire is no longer detected
17
Q

How can you discharge the squib?

A

By pressing the illuminated SQUIB button

The DISCH light will illuminate when the pressure drops below 225 psi

18
Q

What will happen during a fire test?

A
  • fire handle will illuminate
  • FUEL SO light will illuminate on the condition lever if it is not in the fuel cut off position
  • red master warning
  • CRC
  • ENG FIRE light on CAP will illuminate
19
Q

What does the test switch in the FAULT position do?

A

Tests the loop circuitry for faults

  • LOOP fault light on CAP
  • FAULT light on pb
  • master caution
  • single chime
20
Q

What will a successful SQUIB test show?

A

Both SQUIB lights illuminate

21
Q

Where are the smoke detectors in the cabin?

A
  • fwd cargo compartment
  • aft cargo compartment
  • lavatory vent line

Powered by the DC ess bus

22
Q

How many after cargo fans?

A

Two but only one runs at a time

The operational fan swaps each time the DC ess bus is powered up

23
Q

What powers the extract fans?

A

AC stby bus

24
Q

What powers the extract fans?

A

AC stby bus

25
Q

When will the plug melt on the fire bottle in the loo?

A

78 degrees

There are no indications in the flight deck
