Fire Protection Flashcards
What components are in fire protection system
The fire protection system consists of a detection system and extinguishing system. These systems include the sensing elements, smoke detectors, fire extinguishing containers, control handles and a fire detection and extinguisher control unit (FIDEEX). The fire protection system automatically senses and gives indications when a fire, an overheat condition, or smoke occurs. The system can also extinguish a fire in the engines and APU, by manual operation from the flight compartment. The detection system includes the sensing elements located around the power plants, the auxiliary
power unit (APU), and the main landing gear wheel bins. If these areas become too hot, a signal is sent to the FIDEEX. Smoke detectors in the passenger compartment, and lower avionics bay, signal the FIDEEX if they sense smoke, which then causes the applicable indications in the flight compartment. The extinguishing system has two fire extinguisher containers. In the flight compartment there are three fire handles, one for each engine and one for the APU. The fire handles control which bottle will supply the fire-extinguishing chemical. A portable fire extinguisher is available in the flight compartment.
What is FIDEEX
Fire detection and extinguisher control unit (FIDEEX).
What cas message is indicated for fire bottle discharge
Amber- fire bottle low press
How many loops does wheel well have
Single, rest of aircraft dual loop
What is the smoke, fire ,o/h detection system
The detection system senses and gives indications when a fire, an overheat condition, or smoke occurs. Dual-loop sensing elements supply fire detection for the two power plants and the auxiliary power unit (APU). Single-loop sensing elements sense if the main landing gear (MLG) wheel wells become overheated. Smoke detectors supply smoke detection in the passenger compartment, the avionics bay and the avionics rack on the Global 5000. The fire detection and extinguishing control unit (FIDEEX) monitors these elements and smoke detectors, and provides their condition.
What is FIDEEX
Fire Detection and Extinguishing Control Unit Figure A3 The fire detection and extinguishing (FIDEEX) control unit is the electrical interface between the fire protection system and the related components of the aircraft. It automatically performs a built-in
test (BIT) when power is applied and also during 5-minute intervals. This ensures that all the components of the fire protection system are serviceable. A BIT is also available for selection on the electrical management system (EMS CDU) control display unit. If a problem is found, the control unit prompts the engine indicating and crew alerting system (EICAS) to show the indication. It also sends the information to the central aircraft information maintenance system (CAIMS). In the detection system, the FIDEEX monitors the sensing elements and the smoke detectors. When a fire, an overheat condition, or smoke occurs, the FIDEEX sends that signal to the data acquisition unit (DAU). The DAU causes the EICAS to display cautions and warnings. The EICAS also energizes the fire handle light, operates an aural warning and gives a voice message. If the FIDEEX does not transmit correctly to the avionics system, the EICAS will show the message FIRE SYS FAULT. The FIDEEX is located in the baggage compartment under the center/aisle floor.

What is this
What is engine fire detection
The engine is divided into two fire zones, zone 1 and zone 2. Zone 1 is the area between the outer cowlings and the fan structural bypass duct. Zone 2 is the area between the engine outer case and the engine core fairings. Fuel leakage from the VSV actuator, OSU, fuel manifolds and nozzles are the potential fire hazards in zone 2.
