How do you manage fire & explosion hazard from well bore gas?
Ensure driller and crew understand responsibilities related to circulating gas out of the well. WSL must be on rig floor and well must be shut-in and circulated thru choke whenever gas is expected at surface. Ensure circulating system and rig degasser are functioning properly at all times. Ensure flare tank ignitor is functioning and have a back-up ignitor available on the rig.
What controls can be implemented to minimize Fire & Explosion Hazard from existing production equipment on wellsite?
Develop a SIMOPS plan with Production personnel to address risks, hazards, controls, responsibilities, etc. Site Supervisors must get a walk-though and understand potential hydrocarbon, ignition sources, alarms, etc. Ensure equipment spacing is compliant with regulations and everyone involved approves equipment layout. Ensure LEL/H2S monitors are positioned to detect hydrocarbon leaks. Ensure a emergency response plan is established and workers understand their responsibilities to ensure safety on site.
