SSRI indications (3)
- Takes 3-4 weeks to see effect
- Should be taken for 6-12 months
- Best when combined with psychotherapy
Benzodiazepine indications (4)
- Taper over 4-10 weeks
- Life threatening withdrawal
- Caution in elderly
- Extreme caution and contraindication in those with substance abuse history

- Drowsiness, confusion, lethargy
- Tolerance, psychological and physical dependence
- Potentiates CNS depressants (alcohol)
- Aggravates depression
- Paradoxical excitement
