Final Blueprint Cardiac Flashcards
what is MAP?
Used to assess perfusion pressure
Normal 70-100 mmHg
Indications: poor tissue perfusion
Calculation MAP: SBP + (2xDBP)/3
What is important to know about arrhythmias?
Shockable rhythms include V. Fib and pulseless V. Tach, both of these are incompatible with life because there is virtually no cardiac output due to the L ventricle not squeezing efficiently.
Cardiac arrhythmias can impact cardiac output due to the fast or slow rate or the disrupted electrical conduction.
What is important to know about Digoxin?
improves contractility
A transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) MUST be preformed before cardioversion to rule out clots that could be mobilized during shock
what is important to know about amiodarone?
class 1A and class III anti-arrhythmic. Given to a patient in Vtach if they HAVE a pulse.
what is important to know about atropine?
given as treatment to a patient experiencing sinus bradycardia
what is important to know about adenosine?
Provided to a pt experiencing supra-ventricular tachycardia
Will stop cardiacs conduction (flatline the pt), push hard and fast
what is important to know about the delivery of adenosine?
When delivering…
Consent
MD present
Defib pads on
Triple stop-clock in place
Post-procedure management for a cath?
Looking for bleeding and Hematoma:
Monitor EKG, VS (+apical pulse)
Neuro status
Site where cath was placed
Keep leg/arm straight for at least 4 H
Palpate for pulses
Auscultate for pericardial friction rub
Report CP & SOB
Cap refill, sensation, color distal to cath site
What else is important to know about post-procedure management of a cath?
Catheter site is observed for bleeding or hematoma
Temperature and color of the affected extremity are elevated
Dysrhythmias are carefully assessed by observing the cardiac monitor
Bedrest must be maintained for 2-6H after the procedure
Observe for contrast agent induced renal failure
what are the CM and complications for pericarditis?
Sharp pain in chest, anxiety, dyspnea, a friction rub, and fever.
Complications that should be reported immediately include cardiac tamponade, low BP, and muffled heart sounds.
