Final Flashcards
Prosthetic cause of lateral bending:
Prosthesis too short, High medial wall, prosthesis aligned in abduction, improperly shaped lateral wall
Patient cause of lateral bending?
Poor balance, abduction contraction, short residual limb, weak hip abductors, hypersensitive and painful residual limb
Prosthetic cause of abducted gait?
Prosthesis too long, medial wall too hight, prosthesis positioned in too much abduction, inadequate suspension, excessive knee friction
Patient cause of abducted gait?
Abduction contractures, improper training, adductor roll, weak hip flexors and adductors, pain over the lateral residual limb
Prosthetic causes of excessive knee flexion during stance?
Socket set forward in relation to foot, Foot set in excessive dorsiflexion, stiff heel, prosthesis too long
Patient causes of excessive knee flexion during stance?
Knee flexion contracture, hip flexion contracture, pain anterior residual limb, quad weakness, poor balance
Prosthetic causes of vaulting?
Prosthesis too long, inadequate suspension, excessive alignment stability, foot in excessive plantar flexion
Patient causes of vaulting?
Residual limb discomfort, improper training, fear of stubbing toe, short residual limb painful hip/residual limb
Prosthetic causes of rotation of forefoot at heel strike into ER?
Excessive toe out, loose fitting socket, inadequate suspension, rigid sach heel cushion
Patient causes of rotation of forefoot at heel strike into ER?
Poor muscle control, improper training, weakn medial rotators, short residual limb
Prosthetic causes of medial or lateral whip?
Excessive rotation of the knee, Tight socket fit, valgus in prosthetic knee, improper alignment of toe break
Patient causes of medial or lateral whip?
Improper training, weak hip rotators, knee instability
Prosthetic causes of foot drag?
Inadequate suspension of the prosthesis, prosthesis is too big
Patient causes of foot drag?
Weakness in hip abductors or ankle plantar flexors on the contralateral side
Prosthetic causes of uneven arm swing particularly with arm on prosthetic side held close to the body?
Improper fiting socket causing limb discomfort
Patient causes of uneven arm swing particularly with arm on prosthetic side held close to the body?
Inadequate balance, fear and insecurity, uneven timing
Causes of foot slap:
Dorsiflexion assist or plantar flexor stop
Toes first:
Heel pain, Inadequate dorsflexion assist, Inadequate heel lift, Short LE , Pes equinus
Flat foot contact:
Inadequate DF stop, poor balance,
Excessive Medial or lateral foot contact
Transverse plane malalignment, Weak invertors, pes valgus, genu valgum
Excessive Knee Flexion: Knee collapses when foot contacts ground
Inadequate knee lock, dorsiflexion stop, or contralateral shoe lift
Lateral trunk bending:
Medial height of KAFO excessive, Weak glut medius, abduction contracture, dislocated hip, hip pain, poor balance, short leg
Posterior trunk bend:
Weak glut maximus, knee ankylosis
Knee Instability:
transtibial
- Socket to far forward over foot
- Heel is too hard
- Too much knee flexion (socket or patient)
- Higher heeled shoes
- Too short of toe lever
Knee is Extended
transtibial
- Too long of a toe lever arm
- Socket to far posterior over foot
- Insufficient knee flexion (socket or patient)
- Soft heel
- Inadequate training
- Weak Quads
