Eli Whitney’s Cotton Gin – what it did and why that was important
It made it easier to separate the cotton and its seeds. It took less time to separate with the cotton gin than by hand, so more cotton could be produced, then more cotton could be sold, which brought in more money and then bought more slaves.

Spoils System- the practice of replacing government employees with the winning candidates supporters
Jackson tried to kill the bank by withdrawing all federal funds from the national bank and placing them in smaller state banks

Relocation and movement of Cherokee from Georgia to Oklahoma.
Called trail of tear because the Cherokee won the court case, but were still forced to move

Senator Charles Sumner lashed out against ode for slaver, including Andrew P. Butler.
Butler’s cousin, Rep. Preston Brooks, walked into the senate chamber and hit sumner with a cane.
Raid on Harper’s Ferry
John brown led 18 men on a raid to attack a storage facility. He wanted to arm slaves and start a rebellion, but he and his men were quickly defeated.
Dred Scott v Sandford
Divide the nation even more. Justice Roger B. Toney’s decision stated that the constitution protected slavery.

Union forces are greatly outnumbered and are forced to retreat. Lee planned the Pickett’s charge which left them easy targets to the Yankees in hiding in the hills.

Sherman’s March to the Sea
General Sherman led the western army towards Atlanta. After burning Atlanta, Sherman’s army began their history “march to the sea” towards Savannah, Georgia

On April 9, 1865, Lee and his troops surrendered to grant in a small Virginia village called Appomattox Court House.
