What does MIDI do

A
  • Store music files
  • Communications protocal that allows electronic musical instruments to interact with each other
  • Stored as a series as demands BUT NO ACTUAL NOTES
  • Uses 8 bit serial transmission (Asynchronous)
  • High memory storage

Each MIDI command has a sequence of bytes

A
  • First byte is the status byte- Informs the MIDI device what function to preform
  • Encoded on the status byte is the MIDI channel (Operates on 16 different channels)

Note on and off: If a key has been pressed
Key pressure: Indicates how hard a key has been pressed (Volume)

Define JPEG

A
  • Reduce photographic file size
  • Reduce picture resolution by changing the number of pixels per centimeter
  • When undergoing compression, file size is reduced
  • JPEG is reduce the raw bitmap image by a factor between 5 and 15
