fight or flight response Flashcards
step 1 - the situation
a person enters a stressful or dangerous situation
step 2 - amygdala
the amygdala is activate which sends a distress signal to the hypothalamus
step 3 - hypothalamus
the hypothalamus activates the SAM pathway running to the adrenal gland and the SNS
step 4 - SNS
the SNS stimulates the adrenal medulla
step 5 - adrenal medulla
the adrenal medulla secretes adrenaline and noradrenaline into the bloodstream
step 6
adrenaline causes physiological factors to prepare body for flight or fight response
physiological change to heart
increased heart rate to increase blood flow to organs and increase movement of adrenaline
physiological changes - breathing
increased breathing rate to increase oxygen intake
physiological adaptations.
sweat production –v regulate temperature
reduction of non essential functions
