Security Cooperation?
All DOD interactions with foreign defense establishments to build defense relationships that promote specific US security interests, develop allied and friendly military capabilities for self-defense and MN operations, and provide US forces with peacetime and contingency access to a HN.
Security Assistance? (2)
SA is an element of SC funded and authorized by DOS and administered by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the DOD.
SA is a group of programs that the USG uses to provide defense articles, military training, and other defense-related services by grant, loan, credit, or cash sales to advance national policies and objectives.
Foreign Internal Defense?
is the participation by civilian agencies and military forces of a government or international organization in any of the programs or activities taken by the HN government to free and protect its society from subversion, lawlessness, insurgency, violent extremism, terrorism, and other threats to its security.
Counter-Insurgency?
COIN is the combination of measures undertaken by a government, sometimes with USG or MN partner support, to defeat an insurgency.
Three types of support?
Indirect
builds strong national infrastructures through economic and military capabilities that contribute to self-sufficiency (exchange programs, personnel exchange programs,..)
Direct
Combat
Nation Assistance
Civil and/or military assistance rendered to a nation by foreign forces within that nation’s territory during peacetime, crises or emergencies, or war based on agreements mutually concluded between nations.
Nation Assistance Programs
include, but are not limited to, security assistance, FID, other US code title X programs, and activities performed on a reimbursable basis by federal agencies or international organizations.
Foreign assistance?
consists of several legally authorized programs grouped into the general categories of development assistance, humanitarian assistance, and security assistance with the strategic purpose of promoting long-term HN and regional stability.
Security Assistance Organization?
The SAO is the in-country mechanism for ensuring that DOD DA management responsibilities, prescribed by law and executive direction, are properly executed.
