Short term complications
A
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Swelling
- Urinary retention

A
- Recurrent UTI
- Dyspareunia
- BV/PID
- Scarring
- PTSD/trauma
- Menstrual difficulties
- Hep B/HIV- shared instruments

FGM and the law
A
- Illegal in UK to perform here or overseas
- DO NOT reinfibulate

New diagnosed cases
A
For all women w FGM:
- Document in pt notes
- Submit data to HSCIC w name (data is later anonymised)
- If <18yo, report yo police within 1 month
- Social services- if risk to unborn child/child at home

De-infibulation
A
- Offer early- Pre-preg ideally
- Can be done antenatally or in labour
- Under local if wanted
- DO NOT reinfibulate after bith
- DO NOT perform clitoral reconstruction

A
- Ask all women about FGM
- Check HIV, Hep B/C status
- Cons led care, unless prev SVD
