Chest pain, Sedation for RSI, Pts with severe pain or as an alternative to MS
Fentanyl - MoA
Sedation and Analgesia. Similar to meperidine HCL (Demerol) and Morphine sulfate in pharmacological actions but with a more prompt and less prolonged action. !Narcotic agonist-analgesic of opiate receptors; inhibits ascending pain pathways, thus altering response to pain; increases pain threshold; produces analgesia, respiratory depression, and sedation!
Fentanyl - Dosage
Adult: 25-100 mcg slow IVP; 1-2mcg/kg
Peds: 2.0 mcg/kg Slow IV/IM
Fentanyl - Contraindications (7)
MAO inhibitor use within 14 days, Myasthenia Gravis (MG), use with caution in head injuries , ICP, COPD, Bradydysrhythmias and High-risk patients.
