Atropine Sulfate Flashcards
Atropine Sulfate - Classification
Anticholinergic (inhibits parasympathetic)
Atropine Sulfate - Pregnancy Category
C
Atropine Sulfate - Indications (1)
Symptomatic Bradycardia
Atropine Sulfate - Contraindications (4)
Tachycardia, hypersensitivity, unstable cardiovascular status in acute hemorrhage and myocardial ischemia
Atropine Sulfate - MoA
Inhibits the actions of acetylcholine at post-ganglionic parasympathetic neuroeffector sites. These blocked vagal effects result in positive chronotropy and dromotropy without increased inotropy. Used to treat primarily bradycardias and organophosphate poisonings
Atropine Sulfate - Pharmacokinetics
Onset- 1-2mins, Peak- 5min, Duration- 30-45mins
Atropine Sulfate - Reactions (7)
Tachycardia, paradoxical bradycardia when pushed slowly or less than 0.5 mg, dysrhythmias, palpitations, anticholinergic effects, dizziness, headache
Atropine Sulfate - Dosage
Adult: Brady: 0.5mg IVP q 3-5 mins; max dose of 3.0mg or 0.04mg/kg
Peds: 0.02 mg/kg IVP minimum dose of 0.1 mg. Max dose of 0.5mg for child and 1.0mg for a adolescent
