Fent MOA
A
Acts primarily at the u-opioid receptor
Increases pain threshold, alters pain reception, inhibiting ascending pain pathways
-not associated with histamine release bc it is a synthetic mu opioid receptor agonist
-100 times more potent than morphine

Fentanyl dosing
A
RSI PRETREATMENT: 50-200 mcg over 30-60 sec administered ~3 min prior to induction
* not good for chronic pain
Acute post-op pain: IV 50-100 mcg q 5 min or 50-100 mcg q2-5 min for severe pain
