Femoral Triangle Flashcards
What is the superior border of the femoral triangle?
Inguinal ligament
What is the lateral border of the femoral triangle?
Sartorius muscle
Innervated by the femoral nerve L2,3+4
What is the medial border of the femoral triangle?
Adductor longus
What forms the floor of the femoral triangle?
Iliacus, adductor longus and pectineus
What are the contents of the femoral triangle?
Lateral to medial Femoral nerve Femoral artery Femoral vein Femoral canal - empty space and deep inguinal lymph nodes
Which structures are contained within the femoral sheath?
Femoral artery, vein and canal
What is the anatomical landmark of the femoral artery?
Mig-inguinal point
Midway between ASIS and pubic symphysis
What is the anatomical landmark of the femoral nerve?
Mid-point of the inguinal ligament
NB. Same for deep inguinal ring
What is the medial border of the femoral canal?
Lacunar ligament
What is the lateral border of the femoral canal?
Medial border of the femoral vein
What are the boundaries of the adductor canal?
Anterior = sartorius Lateral = vastus medialis Posterior = adductor longus and adductor
What are the contents of the adductor canal?
Femoral artery, femoral vein and saphenous nerve
What is the nerve roots of the femoral nerve?
L2-L4
What is the course of the femoral nerve?
Emerges from lateral border of psoas major
Passes between the two psoas muscles
Divides into 2 divisions beneath the inguinal ligament (anterior and posterior)
Which nerves originate from the anterior branch of the femoral nerve?
Intermediate anterior cutaneous nerve
Medial anterior cutaneous nerve
