What are the four different types of feminism?
Liberal, Radical, Marxist, Difference
What do liberal feminists believe in?
That girls were socialised into the expressive role and since have been re socialised due to changes in the law and attitude.
What are some examples of the March of Progress(MOP)?
Equal pay act(1970), Sex discrimination act(1975) - gives women more freedom over there bodies, Men help out more with housework and parents will have similar aspirations for their sons and daughters
EVALUATION: What do Duncombe and Marsden say?
Women work the triple shift - job, housework, emotional work which shows they are overworked.
What does the radical feminist (Millet 1970) see about modern society?
Men have power over children and women.
What do radical feminists believe about men?
They are the enemy and the source of women’s oppression. They benefit from women’s unpaid labour.
What do radical feminists believe all women shoudl do?
Separatism- women live independently. They argue for political lesbianism - women should be in homosexual relationships to avoid sleeping with the enemy.
EVALUATION: what does Hakim (1995) say about women? What do Functionalists say?
Hakim says that women choose domestic roles as its benefits them with having a family and supported financially. Functionalists say men and women’s role should be separate.
What does Benston -1972 (Marxist feminist) say about the nuclear family?
It is required by capitalism as it reproduces the future workforce.
What does Ansley - Marxist feminist say about women?
They are ‘takers of shit’ as they absorb their husbands anger and will maintain the workforce emotional fitness (BOGOF)
How are women are reserve army of cheap labour?
They will be used in times of economic growth but will be pushed back in their homes during economic slowdown
EVALUATION: what does the personal life perspective say about women?
They have a choice and freedom over choosing their family
What does difference feminist say about women?
We cannot generalise women’s experiences e.g black, white, homosexual, straight, wc women etc will have different experiences
Who do white feminists may neglect?
Black women’s experiences of racial oppression. Black feminists may see black families as positive and support and resist against racism.
EVALUATION: what will other feminists say about these experiences? Difference feminism is the only branch we should evaluate with what?
That women may share same experiences like domestic violence or sexual assault. With another branch of feminism.
