Wc extended families in Bethnal Green and found a pattern of segregated roles e.g men were breadwinners who spend leisure time with their work mates and women are caregivers who don’t have a lot of leisure time.
What do the symmetrical family do? What type of couples are symmetrical?
Symmetrical family will spend more time together(privatised), strong relationships between husbands and wife, home centred. Younger couples.

- CPOW = women working so housework is shared
- Geographical mobility = move away from other families (no support)
- New technology = air fryer, dishwasher, fridges
- Higher standards of living = earning more money

What are men who are in an equal division of labour doing?
They are participating in traditional women’s task.
What are men’s and women’s tasks?
Men’s tasks are things like earning money, house repairs, mowing the lawn. Women’s tasks are thing like regular house cleaning and cooking.
What was there a fall in number of?
The amount of people who thought it’s a man’s job to earn money and a women’s job to look after the home and family.

Back in the day 1% of men did laundry compared to now to 6% of men. Before 48% women took care of the sick family compared to 36% who do it now.

60% of men do more housework than their fathers and 75% women did less housework then her mother. Which shows that each generation there is a shift towards a symmetrical family.
